Our Mission

Our mission is to empower women everywhere during the entire lifespan with pelvic health information that is based in science and evidence. Women’s health is women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights. We hope to close the gap between male and female healthcare when it comes to sexual, reproductive and whole body health and wellness. We want all women to know their bodies and to feel free to discuss pelvic health with others without shame or embarrassment. We dream of a world in which women can talk about sex, pelvic health and reproduction with open, honest, and informed dialogue.

Who we are

Thekegel.com was created by Kaeli Gockel, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Pelvic Health Specialist in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Gockel treats pelvic floor issues in women of all ages at Swedish Medical Center. The website started out as just an educational resource to share with her patients, however, she quickly discovered that everyone could benefit from such a site, not just her patients. The internet seemed to be full of advice, but there was a lack of trustworthy and evidence-based advice out there. She believes that sharing her pelvic health knowledge with the world is a meaningful way to make it a better place. Her dream is to someday have the information on this site be commonplace. She is a feminist, meaning she believes in equality among genders. She is an environmentalist, meaning she attempts to reduce her negative impact on the natural world (although it isn’t always clear to figure out what exactly that is supposed to look like). Her psychology background means that her approach to therapy treats the whole person, psyche included!

In her free time, Dr. Gockel volunteers for Seattle Mountain Rescue. She is a writer, musician, and painter. She enjoys skiing, climbing, mountain biking, sailing, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her partner and their two dogs- Indy and Fitz Roy.
